God Stories

We all have God Stories - those times, situations, moments when God brings all things together. Maybe we received a card in the mail when we were discouraged or God provided and met a need you had that only He knew about or maybe just a blessing as simple as God providing you flowers to plant in your yard.  Whatever they are they are moments that we know God is making it very evident that He is involved in our lives and that He wants to bless us in way that only He can.  Most times He uses people, some times He uses natures, some times He uses circumstances. No matter what method God chooses to us uses, we know that it was/is Him talking to us through them.  We all have had those moments haven’t we?  Below you can read the first “God Story” that was added to the Halas & Phos God Stories pages.

House Wrens

God really cares about us and every detail of our lives. He even wants to please and bless us even in the small things. I have been learning a lot about that in the past several months.

Early this summer, God placed a blessing beyond compare in my life. Several mornings in a row I woke up to the most beautiful song being sung by a bird outside. I had to find out what little creature was making this delightful little song so I looked outside to see this tiny little bird sitting on our deck singing his little heart out. I did some research and found that it was a House Wren and he and his mate had taken up residence in our little bird house on our deck. It was mating season and he was making the most of it. I found out that the male house wren starts several little nests and then brings the Mrs to each one and she chooses which one she likes. Well to my great delight she fancied the one on our deck and so she started in getting the nest all set up the way she would like to.

House Wrens are very faithful to each other during their mating season. They both take care of the nest, laying on the eggs and feeding their young. I watched for days while they took turns sitting on their eggs. I could go out on our deck, sit on our glider and watch their comings and goings only sitting a few short feet away. Once the babies hatched their days were extremely busy bringing choice bugs to their little ones. I just delighted that God gave me such an up close and personal front row seat to one of His miracles in life. While doing my morning devotionals I would go out on the deck, sit on the glider and watch & listen to all the family activity of their day.

When it was getting close for the babies to leave the nest I felt a little sad because I would no longer have the privilege of watching them day in and day out. I guess I felt a part of their lives and they certainly had become a part of mine. I so did not want to miss the babies leaving the nest. My God so knew my heart and how I wanted to not miss out on their first flight that He blessed me beyond compare. On this particular morning I went out as usual to spend time with the Lord and check on my little house wren family. I looked in the birdhouse, as I had made a habit of doing, and they were gone. My heart sunk – I missed the day. I could hear their little chirping but did not see them. I sat on the glider and then I noticed a little bird sitting on our air conditioner, then it weakly flew a couple feet onto the lattice of our deck. I could see that it still had some of its downy feathers and it was not really stable – kind of wobbly. Then it flew just over my lap and landed on the edge of the glider I was sitting on and just sat there for a minute; and then it flew off. God gave me the desire of my heart and that desire was to see the little ones leave the nest. That evening Tim and I were delighted to watch the babies fly from tree to branch and to listen to them chatter with their folks. It was really cute - they would start off a limb pretty strong but then you would see them dip as they tried to make it to a branch that was just a few feet away.

The family settled in a bush close in our yard and we could still listen as the parents taught the babies the in-and-outs of wren life. We don’t get to see them anymore but the memory of this, God’s blessing, will stay with us forever. May we never forget that God shows us His goodness, love and care even in the smallest ways.
